An affiliate of the Society for Human Resource Management, SHRM-Memphis currently consists of nearly 900 professional specialists, generalists, business partners and executives representing the broad spectrum of the HR career including, but not limited to, compensation, benefits, employee relations, employment / recruitment, human resource information systems, training and organizational development. Our members come from a wide variety of industries and employers in the Memphis area.

SHRM-Memphis is a SHRM 100% Chapter - all of our chapter members are SHRM members. As such, SHRM-Memphis does not charge chapter dues. SHRM-Memphis is proud to be a 2006, 2007, 2008, and 2009 Superior Merit Award Winner.

SHRM - Memphis Student Chapter Graduates
Gary Jenkins
Senior, Management major, Finance minor, May 2013 graduate
Gary, a FCBE Honors student, served the Fogelman College of Business and Economics as President and Vice-President of the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) student chapter. While in that leadership role, he was the recipient of the James House SHRM State Scholarship award in September, 2012. He also interned with McDonald’s corporate office and was a participant at the McDonald’s US Summer Internship review in Chicago, July, 2012. He was a MILE student in the 2012-13 academic year. He was selected as a two-semester Green Intern with Bioworks where he assisted in HR research, website design, and staffing analysis and planning for the City of Memphis related to sustainability efforts. Most recently he was awarded the FCBE Honors Student of the Year award by Dean Grover and Director of the FCBE Honors Program, Irvin Tankersely.
As a May 2013 Summa Cum Laude graduate, Gary is now interning with Cummins of the Mid-South under the direction of Rolana Bourland, SHRM VP and President Elect.

Rebecca Day
Senior, Management major, May 2013 graduate
Rebecca Day, Graduating Senior and Management major, has been an outstanding campus leader at the University of Memphis. In addition to her leadership development through the Emerging Leaders program, Rebecca served as President of the Residence Hall Council, Vice-President of Recruitment for the UM Panhellenic Council, and a Leadership Officer for the SHRM (Society of Human Resource Management). Her internship and employment experiences include being a Resident Advisor for five semesters as well as an intern with the Avron B. Fogleman Center For Professional Career Development and the UM Leadership and Involvement office.
As a MILE 2 student, she has led other MILE students in activities as well as encouraging other students to pursue their Professional Development Certificate through the Avron B. Fogleman Center For Professional Career Development. She is the type of student academically that all professors value in their classrooms. Rebecca brings enthusiasm and creativity to any situation and positively influences those around her.
During her time in the Fogelman College of Business and Economics, she has been a tremendous role model for other students and a true asset to our college. As a May 2013 graduate, she is now an HR intern with TruckPro under the direction of Jason Callahan, SHRM Treasurer.

The Million Calorie Reduction Match Project
Goals:
* The Million Calorie Reduction Match (MCRM) Project seeks to address the obesity epidemic in our community by improving the nutrition habits and increasing physical activity of the citizens of the City of Memphis and Shelby County, Tennessee through policies that transform the food and physical activity environments in organizations and community venues.
* Change the health (i.e. obesity rate, rates of heart disease, diabetes, and hypertension) of the citizens of the Greater Memphis area by creating a culture of health through participation by organizations such as local municipalities, major employers, non-profits, churches and community organizations.Project
Description: Million Calorie Reduction Match (MCRM)- MCRM, a project of the Healthy Memphis Common Table (HMCT), seeks to improve environments to support healthy eating habits and increase physical activity. Initial MCRM participants are those with a readiness for improving the health of their employees, members, etc. HMCT can facilitate initial project planning support and provide technical resource sharing to support either in launching or strengthening the organization’s health improvement program.
Memphis is one of 5 communities funded by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF). RWJF is the largest US philanthropic organization dedicated to improving the health and health care of all Americans.
How to Get Started:
* Meet with one of the Strategic Planning Partners regarding your interest in MCRM.
* Identify a “champion” within your organization.
* Conduct a basic on-line assessment of what is already working towards a culture of health in your organization.
* Participate in a project planning session with HMCT.
* Launch your organization’s action plan.
* Review results and impacts, and outline steps for continuous improvement.
* Receive community recognition for impact (Blue, Bronze, Silver and Gold).Focus Areas for Culture of Health:
* Increase physical activity opportunities through a healthy physical activity policy.
* Improve food nutrition at meetings and events through a healthy meeting/event policy.
