THE JAMES HOUSE WILLIAMSON AWARD
This award is given in memory of the man who is recognized as being responsible for the establishment of Extension Centers around the State which led to the establishment of the Adult Education Program of the University of Tennessee being located around the State. Mr. Williamson also served the TIPC (predecessor to THRC) for some eleven years as Secretary of the Conference. The award was established in appreciation for his great service to this Conference and to stimulate the development of sound human resources management in all of its various phases and to publicly recognize the work of those who have made significant contributions to this effort.
PURPOSE:
The purpose of the JHW Award is to recognize, on an annual basis, the work of an individual in the State of Tennessee who in the eyes of their peers has made outstanding contributions to the professional development of sound human resources management in any or all of its various phases.
ELIGIBILIITY:
Any person residing and working the State of Tennessee in any phase of the human resources profession who shall have made a significant contribution to the profession above and beyond the scope of their employment and is deserving, in the eyes of the organization or person making the nomination, of the recognition this award stands for as having made an outstanding contribution to human resources management in the State.
Generally speaking, not more than one award will be made each year, or at the discretion of the Awards Committee, in the event there should be an unbreakable tie a second award can be made, or at the discretion of the Committee no award may be made, depending upon the committee's evaluation of the accomplishments of those nominated.
PRESENTATION:
The award shall be announced and presented at the annual meeting of the joint THRC/SHRM Conference by the most recent previous recipient of the award or, if unavailable to make that presentation, a person who shall be designated by the Executive Director. The person selected by the Awards Committee shall remain a closely held secret prior to that time, known only to those with a real "need to know."
AWARDS COMMITTEE:
The Awards Committee shall be composed of the five most recent recipients of the JHW Award that are still actively employed or are still active with their local associations on a regular basis. The Executive Director of THRC will serve as the secretary to the committee and shall be anon-voting member of the committee. It shall be the duty of the Awards Committee to make the final selection of the person or persons to receive the award.
NOMINATIONS:
Nominations are normally submitted by human resources groups or SHRM chapters, but may be submitted by an person or organization which takes part in the activities of the SHRM Conference. All nominations must be in writing and submitted in the approved nomination format which follows. The nomination must include a complete biographical sketch and must present, in the format stated on the attached sheets, a detailed evaluation of the nominee's special contributions to the development of human resources management in the State of Tennessee.

THE HR PROFESSIONAL EXCELLENCE AWARD
The HR Professional Excellence Award presented by the SHRM Tennessee State
Council, recognizes contributions to the Human Resource Profession by any HR
Professional working in the State of Tennessee. Nominations for the award
will be accepted through August 2008. Awards will be presented during the
16th Annual Tennessee Human Resources Conference at the Memphis Peabody
Hotel.
Consider the following when submitting your written nomination:
Service to the ChapterLeadership, committee participation, support of chapter activities, attendance, etc.
Service to the HR Profession
SHRM leadership roles at the state, regional or national level, leadership roles in other HR professional organizations, volunteer activities that increase awareness of and reflect favorably on the role of HR professionals, innovations in HR practices, acting as a resource to peers, mentoring students or young professionals, publications, research, teaching, etc.
Service to the Community
Civic or service organization involvement.
Professional History
Education, experience, work history, record of professional growth, professional certification.
Selection of award recipients will be made by a panel of made up of SHRM TN
State Council members. Only the committee will know the identity of this
year's honorees until the moment of the award. Nominations can be submitted
in any written format but should be specific and as detailed as possible
describing exactly why your nominee should be honored.
